Authorship Criteria

Authorship in JECCE (Journal of Early Childhood Care and Education) is based on the criteria established by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors. To qualify as an author, individuals must meet all of the following conditions:

  1. Substantial contributions to the conception or design of the work; or the acquisition, analysis, or interpretation of data;
  2. Drafting the manuscript or critically revising it for important intellectual content;
  3. Final approval of the version to be published;
  4. Accountability for all aspects of the work, ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved.

Individuals who do not meet all four criteria should not be listed as authors but may be acknowledged in the Acknowledgments section.

Unethical Authorship Practices

The journal strictly prohibits unethical authorship practices, including but not limited to:

  • Gift authorship: listing individuals as authors who have not made significant contributions to the research.
  • Ghost authorship: excluding individuals who have made substantial contributions from the list of authors.
  • Honorary authorship: assigning authorship based solely on position, reputation, or authority.

All listed authors must have agreed to the submission and publication of the manuscript.

Author Responsibilities

  • The corresponding author is responsible for ensuring that:
    • All eligible contributors are included as authors;
    • No ineligible individuals are listed;
    • All authors have reviewed and approved the final manuscript;
    • Any changes in authorship after submission are justified and approved by all authors

Changes to Authorship

Any addition, removal, or rearrangement of author names after manuscript submission must be:

  • Clearly justified,
  • Approved by all authors (including those being added or removed),
  • Subject to editorial approval.

Acknowledgment of Contributions

Contributors who do not meet authorship criteria but have provided support (e.g., technical assistance, editorial help, or general supervision) should be acknowledged appropriately, with their permission.
