Focus and Scope

Aims

• The journal provides a formal, well-organised forum for non-native-English scholars to make new academic contributions to research and practice in ELT on a global basis.

• The journal serves as a hosting space for both native and non-native academics to share ideas and become involved in novel dialogues, with an emphasis on under-researched areas in the field.

Scopes

• Local teachers’ beliefs about various aspects of ELT theory and practice

• Fresh insights into current debates and controversial topics

• Shared research findings from both teachers and scholars in ELT, especially from an outer circle perspective

• Case studies in local contexts that enhance the localisation of academic theories in ELT (such as the practice of the lesson study model that originates outside of the inner circle)

• Recognition of local teachers’ voices, which are less heard of in the inner-circle discourse, and their practical classroom ideas that are less common but important to not overlooked

• Rethinking the transferability of ELT theories across global context (such as the communicative doctrine, the meaning of autonomy, the practice of verbal participation, etc.)

• Practical classroom experiments in language education that would expand teachers’ knowledge and skills

• Identifying gaps and addressing new topics that have not been strong focuses in previous research discourse in education (such as the use of silence in teaching, the improved alignment between pedagogy and assessment, etc.)

Peer Review Process

Each eligible manuscript will undergo a reviewing process done by at least two subjects reviewers of the relevant field. The review process is conducted using Double Blind Peer Review process.

The decision whether the manuscript is accepted or rejected is determined by the editorial team rather than by the results of the review process only. In addition, the editors reserve the right to edit articles for format consistency witho

 

Publication Frequency

ELTEJ is published three tims a year in the months of April, August, and December.

 

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that makes research freely available to the public to support a greater global exchange of knowledge.

 

Archiving

This journal utilizes the LOCKSS system to create a distributed archiving system among participating libraries and permits those libraries to create permanent archives of the journal for purposes of preservation and restoration. More...

Ethical Guideline for Journal Publication

This Ethical Guideline refers to COPE (Committee On Publication Ethics) 

 
The publication of an article in a peer-reviewed UAD Journals is an essential building block in the development of a coherent and respected network of knowledge. It is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Peer-reviewed articles support and embody the scientific method. It is therefore important to agree upon standards of expected ethical behavior for all parties involved in the act of publishing: the authors, the journal editors, the peer reviewers, the publisher and the society.  

Universitas Ahmad Dahlan (UAD) as publisher of this Journal takes its duties of guardianship over all stages of publishing extremely seriously and we recognize our ethical and other responsibilities. We are committed to ensuring that advertising, reprint or other commercial revenue has no impact or influence on editorial decisions. In addition, the UAD and Editorial Board will assist in communications with other journals and/or publishers where this is useful and necessary.


Publication decisions


The editors of the UAD journals are responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal should be published. The validation of the work in question and its importance to researchers and readers must always drive such decisions. The editors may be guided by the policies of the journal's editorial board and constrained by such legal requirements as shall then be in force regarding libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism. The editors may confer with other editors or reviewers in making this decision.


Fair play


An editor at any time evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.


Confidentiality


The editor and any editorial staff must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.


Disclosure and conflicts of interest


Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.


Duties of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions


Peer review assists the editor in making editorial decisions and through the editorial communications with the author may also assist the author in improving the paper.


Promptness


Any selected referee who feels unqualified to review the research reported in a manuscript or knows that its prompt review will be impossible should notify the editor and excuse himself from the review process.


Confidentiality


Any manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. They must not be shown to or discussed with others except as authorized by the editor.


Standards of Objectivity


Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

Acknowledgement of Sources


Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any statement that an observation, derivation, or argument had been previously reported should be accompanied by the relevant citation. A reviewer should also call to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper of which they have personal knowledge.


Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Privileged information or ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships or connections with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.


Duties of Authors

Reporting standards

Authors of reports of original research should present an accurate account of the work performed as well as an objective discussion of its significance. Underlying data should be represented accurately in the paper. A paper should contain sufficient detail and references to permit others to replicate the work. Fraudulent or knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behaviour and are unacceptable.


Data Access and Retention


Authors are asked to provide the raw data in connection with a paper for editorial review, and should be prepared to provide public access to such data (consistent with the ALPSP-STM Statement on Data and Databases), if practicable, and should in any event be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable time after publication.


Originality and Plagiarism


The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others that this has been appropriately cited or quoted.


Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication


An author should not in general publish manuscripts describing essentially the same research in more than one journal or primary publication. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behaviour and is unacceptable.


Acknowledgement of Sources

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have been influential in determining the nature of the reported work.


Authorship of the Paper


Authorship should be limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the reported study. All those who have made significant contributions should be listed as co-authors. Where there are others who have participated in certain substantive aspects of the research project, they should be acknowledged or listed as contributors. The corresponding author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included on the paper, and that all co-authors have seen and approved the final version of the paper and have agreed to its submission for publication.


Hazards and Human or Animal Subjects

If the work involves chemicals, procedures or equipment that have any unusual hazards inherent in their use, the author must clearly identify these in the manuscript.


Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest


All authors should disclose in their manuscript any financial or other substantive conflict of interest that might be construed to influence the results or interpretation of their manuscript. All sources of financial support for the project should be disclosed.


Fundamental errors in published works

When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author’s obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and cooperate with the editor to retract or correct the paper.

 

Retraction

The papers published in English Langauge Teaching Educational Journal will be considered to retract in the publication if :

  1. They have clear evidence that the findings are unreliable, either as a result of misconduct (e.g., data fabrication) or honest error (e.g., miscalculation or experimental error)
  2. the findings have previously been published elsewhere without proper crossreferencing, permission or justification (i.e., cases of redundant publication)
  3. it constitutes plagiarism
  4. it reports unethical research

Correction and Retraction Policies

English Language Teaching Educational Journal is committed to upholding the integrity of the literature and publishes Errata, Expressions of Concerns or Retraction Notices dependent on the situation and in accordance with the COPE Retraction Guidelines. Policy of Screening for Plagiarism

Papers submitted to the International Journal of Education and Learning will be screened for plagiarism using CrossCheck/iThenticate plagiarism detection tools. International Journal of Education and Learning will immediately reject papers leading to plagiarism or self-plagiarism.

Before submitting articles to reviewers, those are first checked for similarity/plagiarism tool, by a member of the editorial team. The papers submitted to English Language Teaching Educational Journal must have a similarity level of less than 15%.

Plagiarism is the exposing of another person’s thoughts or words as though they were your own, without permission, credit, or acknowledgment, or because of failing to cite the sources properly. Plagiarism can take diverse forms, from literal copying to paraphrasing the work of another. In order to properly judge whether an author has plagiarized, we emphasize the following possible situations:

  • An author can literally copy another author’s work- by copying word by word, in whole or in part, without permission, acknowledge or citing the original source. This practice can be identified by comparing the original source and the manuscript/work who is suspected of plagiarism.
  • Substantial copying implies for an author to reproduce a substantial part of another author, without permission, acknowledge or citation. The substantial term can be understood both in terms of quality as quantity, being often used in the context of Intellectual property. Quality refers to the relative value of the copied text in proportion to the work as a whole.
  • Paraphrasing involves taking ideas, words or phrases from a source and crafting them into new sentences within the writing. This practice becomes unethical when the author does not properly cite or does not acknowledge the original work/author. This form of plagiarism is the more difficult form to be identified.
 

Withdrawal of Manuscripts

The author is not allowed to withdraw submitted manuscripts because the withdrawal is a waste of valuable resources that editors and referees have spent. Please be advised that Editors and referees have spent a great deal of time processing submitted manuscript, and works invested by the publisher.

If the author still requests withdrawal of his/her manuscript when the manuscript is still in the peer-reviewing process, the author will be punished by paying $300 per document as withdrawal penalty to the publisher. However, it is unethical to withdraw a submitted manuscript from one journal if accepted by another journal.

If an author requires a withdrawal of the manuscript after the manuscript is accepted for publication, the author will be punished by paying US$500 per document. Removal of paper is only allowed after the withdrawal penalty has been fully paid to the Publisher. If the author doesn't agree to pay the penalty, the author and his/her affiliation will be blacklisted for publication in this journal, even his/her previously published articles will be removed from our online system.

 

Posting Your Article Policy

Before submission to ELTEJ
Authors may post their article anywhere at any time, including on preprint servers such as arXiv.org. This does not count as a prior publication.

Upon submission to ELTEJ
Authors may share or post their submitted version of the article (also known as the preprint) in the following ways:

  1. On the author’s website or their employer’s website
  2. On institutional or funder websites if required
  3. In the author’s classroom use
  4. On Scholarly Collaboration Networks (SCNs) that are signatories to the International Association of Scientific, Technical, and Medical Publishers’ Sharing Principles (https://www.stm-assoc.org/stm-consultations/scn-consultation-2015/)
The following text should be included on the first page of the submitted article when it first is posted in any of the above outlets: “This work has been submitted to English Language Teaching Educational Journal, http://journal2.uad.ac.id/index.php/eltej/index, for possible publication".

Upon acceptance to English Language Teaching Educational Journal (ELTEJ)
If an author previously posted their submitted version of the article in any of the following locations, he or she will need to replace the provided text with the accepted version of English Language Teaching Educational Journal. No other changes may be made to the accepted article.

Final published article
  1. When the article is issued, the posted version should be updated with a full citation to the original English Language Teaching Educational Journal, including DOI.
