Aims

Islam in World Perspectives (IWP) is an academic journal that serves as a platform for publishing high-quality, peer-reviewed scholarly works in the field of Islamic Studies. The journal is affiliated with the Islam in World Perspectives Symposium (IWOS) an annual conference organized by the Faculty of Islamic Studies, Universitas Ahmad Dahlan, Indonesia. This symposium is dedicated to fostering academic exchange and the development of new perspectives in the study of Islam through rigorous scholarly research and critical dialogue.

The journal aims to advance the understanding of Islam as both a religious tradition and a civilizational force by encouraging intellectual inquiry that is contextual, interdisciplinary, and responsive to contemporary challenges. It provides space for researchers, academics, and practitioners to explore Islamic teachings and their relevance to modern societies, engage with emerging issues through Islamic lenses, and contribute to the global conversation on religion, education, economics, ethics, and culture.

In supporting the broader goals of the IWOS, Islam in World Perspectives is committed to publishing articles that reflect diverse voices and approaches within Islamic scholarship. It particularly welcomes research that bridges classical Islamic knowledge with modern academic disciplines and methodologies, contributes to the revitalization of Islamic thought, and promotes scholarly innovation that benefits both Muslim communities and the broader society.

 

Scope

The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, the following fields:

  1. Arabic Language and Literature

This section covers the linguistic, literary, and rhetorical aspects of Arabic, both classical and modern, include:

  • Arabic linguistics, grammar (naḥw and ṣarf), morphology, and semantics
  • Classical Arabic literature, including poetry, prose, and oratory
  • Modern Arabic literary movements and critical theories
  • Comparative studies of Arabic with other Semitic and world languages
  • Innovations in Arabic language teaching and curriculum development
  • Analysis of Arabic texts in religious, historical, and cultural contexts

This section focuses on the critical study of Hadith from traditional and contemporary perspectives, include:

  • Methodologies of Hadith authentication and classification
  • Thematic analysis of Hadith (mawḍū‘ī) in addressing contemporary issues
  • The history and evolution of Hadith literature and transmission
  • Application of Hadith in legal, ethical, and theological discourse
  • The role of Hadith in shaping Islamic worldviews and daily practices

This area explores the pedagogical, philosophical, and sociocultural aspects of Islamic education in formal and non-formal settings, include:

This section addresses the theoretical foundations, practical implementations, and emerging issues in Islamic economics and finance, include:

In addition to the core focus areas above, the journal is open to interdisciplinary studies that critically engage Islamic perspectives in relation to contemporary phenomena. Submissions that draw on sociology, law, political science, philosophy, cultural studies, digital humanities, and educational technology within the context of Islamic knowledge and practice are especially encouraged.
