Barthes in his method divides the significance of meaning into three stages, namely the denotation stage, the connotation stage, and the myth. These signs also can be found in film posters. The film poster that will be discussed in this research is Budi Pekerti (2023), directed and written by Wregas Bhanuteja. This research uses qualitative research methods. Qualitative methods aim to understand social phenomena seen from the participant’s perspective. The signifier and signified present in the Budi Pekerti film poster certainly produce connotation and denotation meanings that are in line with Barthes’s thinking.
2024-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Helga Pratama Sari http://journal2.uad.ac.id/index.php/mimesis/article/view/10171 Identitas Perempuan Melalui Budaya Pernikahan: Kajian Feminisme Eksistensialis Beauvoir dalam Cerpen Ganti Lapik 2024-07-28T00:03:44+00:00 Hendra Aprianto denganhendra@gmail.com
This article examines women's identity in marriage culture through the short story Ganti Lapik (GL) by A.A. Navis—an analytical framework using Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist feminism approach. Through analyzing the narratives in literary works, this article explores how cultural norms and women's roles make the other or shape women's identities. The study limit in this research is only on a female character named Dahniar. The stages of this research use qualitative descriptive methods with reading and note-taking techniques. The result of reading and analyzing the work obtained from this research is that Dahniar's character shows a strong woman and a fighter. Dahniar became her person while living in the city. The events that Dahniar went through to reach the peak of her freedom and independent life went through a long process in the social community. Through reading and studying GL's short stories, it can provide an understanding of the struggle of a woman who struggles independently. Literary representations of cultural and women's issues are a treasure that sparks discussion among the general public. This article invites readers to interpret Beauvoir's thoughts in literary works as a means to raise awareness of feminist issues.
2024-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Hendra Aprianto http://journal2.uad.ac.id/index.php/mimesis/article/view/10588 Kekerasan Epistemik Selama Covid-19 di Indonesia 2024-07-23T05:21:57+00:00 Angga Trio Sanjaya angga.sanjaya@idlitera.uad.ac.id Dedi Pramono dedi.pramono@idlitera.uad.ac.id Arif Budi Prasetya arif.prasetya@bk.uad.ac.id

This research discusses epistemic violence against subaltern subjects who work through Western knowledge mechanisms so that all knowledge truths are measured using scientific and scientific schemes. The aim of this research is to understand the discourse of epistemic violence during the Covid-19 pandemic from Foucault's perspective through reading genealogy during the Covid-19 pandemic in information media from government websites and mass media. The research method in this study uses Foucault's discourse analysis which is based on the 'genealogy' method strategy to find an episteme that is converged with the term power-knowledge. The subject of this research is news discourse during Covid-19, while the object of this research is epistemic violence in news discourse during Covid-19. The news sources for this research are classified based on online media news texts which contain the production of knowledge discourse and regulations for handling Covid-19 which have the potential for epistemic violence. Data collection techniques in this research apply document review techniques, libraries, listening techniques and note-taking techniques. The research results show that there is epistemic violence perpetrated by the West against the East through discourses of knowledge and science during the spread and handling of Covid-19. Attractive packaging of herbal products can create a positive visual impression, encouraging consumers to try them. This study examines eight jamu packages incorporating elements of Javanese culture, interpreting the meanings they convey. Examples of the analyzed names include Sri Putih, Sari Asih, Sari Asmara, Arum Bulan, Candra Dewi, Sepet Wangi, Super Semar Turmeric Powder, and Candik Ayu. The article also investigates the context behind the use of icons, symbols, and indexes on the packaging. The names of the jamu packages are derived from the Bausastra dictionary, considering the basic meanings used in naming these products. Ultimately, the study concludes that jamu packaging carries symbolic meanings based on Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic method, which suggests to potential consumers the benefits of the products. These symbolic meanings can influence consumers through the icons, symbols, and indices on the packaging.

2024-07-31T00:00:00+00:00 Copyright (c) 2024 Nova Andriyana http://journal2.uad.ac.id/index.php/mimesis/article/view/11248 Facing Loss: Julie's Inner Struggle in Dustin Thao Novel’s You've Reached Sam 2024-07-30T14:32:41+00:00 Ghaisani Fakhrani Ristan ghaisanifakhrani.2023@student.uny.ac.id

The inner conflict experienced by the character Julie in the novel You've Reached Sam by Dustin Thao and the way Julie's character overcomes inner conflict is interesting to study with the theory proposed by Kurt Lewin. This study aims to examine the inner conflict experienced by the main character in the novel You've reached Sam by Dustin Thao, along with the factors that affect the occurrence of these conflicts using a literary psychology approach.
