http://journal2.uad.ac.id/index.php/jkpl/article/view/12504

Air quality problems that occur in the world today are always associated with the development of large cities and almost no large city in the world is free from symptoms of air pollution. The level of air quality is getting lower day by day due to high levels of air pollution. Pekanbaru City is one of the cities in Indonesia that is prone to air pollution. This research aims to analyze the incidence of the Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU) as information on air quality in Pekanbaru City. The research method used was collecting primary and secondary data through informants. The research was conducted at the Pekanbaru City Environment and Hygiene Service. Data were analyzed using the fishbone method and the Urgency, Seriousness, Growth (USG) method. The research results show that forest fires are the main priority problem which causes the air pollution standard index (ISPU) in Pekanbaru City to be in the medium category. The conclusion of this research is that forest fires often occur in Pekanbaru City which then causes smog and disrupts air quality, increases pollution levels, and increases the risk of respiratory problems.
Fenny Ratna Masni, Herniwanti

http://journal2.uad.ac.id/index.php/jkpl/article/view/11230

Mercury waste pollution is an environmental health issue resulting from poor management of mineral production waste materials. Small-scale gold mining areas using amalgamation techniques still contribute high levels of mercury waste to the environment. The technical issue of inadequate storage of production waste materials warrants adaptive control studies for small-scale gold miners (PESK). The aim of this research is to determine the efficiency of chemical and biological mercury waste control in small-scale gold mining cases. This research is a literature review using the systematic review method. The obtained articles underwent review, analysis, and comparison of the systematic capabilities of chemical and biological control. The results of this research found 11 relevant study articles published between 2017-2024. Chemical and biological control methods are capable of reducing mercury levels in tailing water by up to 99%. The form of adaptive control for small-scale gold mining conditions is assessed pragmatically and based on reduced mercury levels. The conclusion of this research is that applied research on mercury waste pollution cases in small-scale mining is still relatively lacking. Efficiency in controlling mercury levels is more realistic using biological control. Laboratory test result approaches can indicate the potential of biological control with bioremediation techniques as an efficient adaptive control effort for small-scale gold miners.
Lalu Riza Mahendra, Tri Wahyuni Sukesi, Surahma Asti Mulasari

http://journal2.uad.ac.id/index.php/jkpl/article/view/12288

Groundwater is the most desired natural resource to fulfill daily needs of humans in the world. The lake of Rawa Pening has undergone a decline in water quality due to both external and internal activities that pose a risk of pollution. Environmental pollution in the surrounding lake of Rawa Pening is not only indicated by the proliferation and expansion of water hyacinth plants but also from heavy metals. This study examined the concentration and spatial distribution of Cd, Cu, Pb, and Fe in the groundwater of Sub DAS Galeh-Torong, the western part of Rawa Pening, to better understand the threats in the Rawa Pening Lake circumstance. A total of 18 groundwater samples were collected and analyzed using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). Inverse distance weighted (IDW) was applied to reveal the spatial distribution combined with the standard threshold classification pattern. The result showed that the concentration of Cd, Pb, and Fe was exceeding the Indonesian standard for drinking water, while Cu did not. Further, the spatial distribution pattern revealed that the eastern part of the study area was consistently in high concentration for all of the metals. The location is flat in morphology and is associated with intensive human activities such as settlement areas, agriculture areas, and tourism areas. The impact of heavy metal exposure through drinking water should become a highlighted issue in the study area since the toxicity of heavy metals can have a lethal impact. The information of concentration and spatial distribution is crucial to the better management of water resource security and sustainability.
Dhandhun Wacano, Nedhia Febrianti , Lutfia Isna Ardhayanti

The elderly, defined as individuals aged 60 and above, often face challenges related to health, social, and economic factors that affect their quality of life. Programs such as Senior Schools and Senior Learning Spaces aim to support the physical, social, and mental health of the elderly through relevant educational activities. However, management and facility challenges required attention. The goal of this research was to enhance the management capacity of Senior Learning Spaces through training for partners in developing elderly learning programs and improving learning infrastructure. This research used a qualitative approach with Focus Group Discussions (FGD) and curriculum workshops at the Senior School of Yayasan Senior Madani Indonesia, Social Club Indonesia, from November 5-10, 2024. The study involved 10 informants and aimed to design a curriculum relevant to the needs of the elderly. The outcome of this reasearch was a structured curriculum for senior schools, covering areas such as worship, health, Quran reading, and simple technology. This curriculum was relevant to the needs of the elderly and supported the goal of fostering healthy, independent, and productive seniors.
Tri Wahyuni Sukesi, Surahma Asti Mulasari, Vera Yuli Erviana , Sulistyawati
